01- Vintage Base Ball played again this season @ Hartwick Pines State Park.  Baseball has been a part of northern Michigan since the 1870s and the Hartwick Pines “Swampers” will again be interpreting this part of the local history by playing their fourth season of “vintage” base ball at Hartwick Pines State Park this summer.  The Swampers will play a full season of ten games against other vintage base ball teams beginning June 1st and an exhibition game on July 6th, where anyone who is interested can take part and play baseball by rules of 1860.  Come on out to cheer on the “Swampers” this season or even better, become a member of the team!  On June 1: Swampers vs. Northville Eclipse. 02 - Sign up begins for the "Catch the Reading Bug" Summer Reading Program at all branches of the Crawford County Library System. So swarm over to the library and join in on some summer reading ant-ics.

07 - Devereaux Memorial Library will hold their kick off party for their Summer Reading Program at 10:30 a.m..  Festivities will include magician Gordon Russ and a bountiful bug buffet.  For more information call the library at 989-348-9214
07 - Hanson Hills Challenge Trail Run @ Hanson Hills Recreation Area - This challenging 5-mile course begins and ends in front of Hanson Hills Little Smokey Cross Country Lodge.  Your run is over hilly and some sandy terrain that cuts through Hanson's beautifully wooded forest.  Check in on Saturday, June 7th from 7:30 am to 9 am at Hanson Hills main lodge. Race begins at 9:00 am Awards: Customized Hanson Hills Trail Run Socks to first 50 participants registered.  Awards to top three finishers in each age group.  Prize for first male and female overall winner.  Early Registration $15 postmarked by May 28, 2008. 07 - Special Olympics Michigan Area 4 Bowling Fundraiser Registration at 6 - Practice at 6:45 - Bowl at 7 pm. @ the American Legion Hall. $25 per person includes 3 games of "9 pin-No Tap" Bowling, shoe rental, pizza & pop. 07-08 Crawford County Commission on Aging will host a Garage Sale, on June 7th & June 8th at 308 Lawndale Street. More info to follow when it becomes available.

07 - The Gene Krupa Orchestra @ Kirtland Center for the Performing Arts 8:00 p.m. Carnegie Hall, January 16, 1938... The Benny Goodman Orchestra swings its way into big band history! And Gene Krupa, pounding out SING SING SING on the tom toms, made his own bit of big band history that night which would change the course of drumming forever. By the late 1930’s, Gene Krupa had emerged as a national phenomenon and his appearances on stage and film catapulted him to superstar status, prompting him to step out from Goodman’s shadow and set out on his own. Now leading the new Gene Krupa Orchestra, Michael Berkowitz brings the Krupa magic back to life for a whole new generation.
